Albert B. Gaucher, 83, of Fairhaven died Wednesday March 28, 2007 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital after a long illness. He was the husband of Constance (Valladoa) Gaucher; they had been married for 60 years.
Born in Acushnet, the son of the late Felix and Annie (Myers) Gaucher, he lived in Fairhaven for most of his life.
He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church.
Mr. Gaucher was formerly employed as a master carpenter for Sullivan and Foster, Inc.
During World War II, he served as a surgical technician in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He was a member of the American Legion Post 166 and the Carpenters Union, Local 1305.
A skilled craftsman and furniture maker, he enjoyed keeping busy in his workshop. He loved spending time with his family and attending family celebrations. He enjoyed his Friday night poker games with "the boys." He will be fondly remembered for his wonderful wit and sense of humor.
Survivors include his wife; six daughters, Nancy Bryan and her husband Jon, Janice Roy and her husband Conrad, and Barbara Silva and her husband Robert, all of Mattapoisett, Helen DeForge and her husband Michael, Mary DesRoches and her husband Marc, and Joan Gouveia and her husband Michael, all of Fairhaven; a sister, Viola Lafrenais of Acushnet; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Albert B. Gaucher, Jr. and Philip J. Gaucher, and brother of the late Raymond Gaucher, Felix Gaucher, Blanche LeBlanc, and Lillian Bouley.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 9 AM in St. Joseph's Church, Fairhaven. Burial with military honors will follow in Riverside Cemetery.
