Joaquin Miranda Jr
...Retired Career Musician U S Navy; 82
TEWKSBURY - Joaquin Miranda Jr., age 82, a 28 year career Navy musician, died Thursday,
March 1, at Saints Medical Center in Lowell. He was the beloved husband of Concetta (Riccio)
Miranda, with whom he had celebrated a 55th wedding anniversary this past November 11th.
He was born in Fairhaven, MA, on January 31, 1925, the son of Joaquin and Virginia (Linares)
Miranda. Mr. Miranda served his country proudly for over 28 years in the Navy as a Musician
First Class Petty Officer. He was also retired from the Bay State Federal Savings and Loan Bank
located in Brookline, MA, and in his later years, he worked for the Boston and Maine Railroad as
a carman. Mr. Miranda was also a member of the Monte Cristo Band based in Cambridge. He
retired and enjoyed spending numerous hours with his friends and extended family.
Besides his wife he is survived by seven children; Joaquin “Jack” and Laurel (Jay) Miranda of
Tyngsboro, Concetta “Connie” and Bruce Sweet of Tewksbury, Joseph and Nina (Reynolds)
Miranda of Wilmington, Carolann and Stephen Holmberg of Westford, James and Linda
(Millward) Miranda of Tewksbury, Cathleen and Stephen Scalli of Winthrop, John Miranda of
Dracut; 18 grandchildren, Brett, Brian, Bruce and Erin Sweet. Joaquin, Zachery, MacKenzie and
Dakota Miranda. Jillian and Arianna Miranda. Madison Holmberg. James and Gina Miranda and
Jessica and Alicia Milward. Jack and Shay Scalli and John Miranda; two sisters, Mary St. Louis
of Tewksbury and Hilda Deal of Edinburgh, VA. He is also survived by many nieces and
nephews.
His Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday, March 5, in St. William’s Church,
Tewksbury. Burial with Navy Honors was at Tewksbury
Cemetery. Memorials to the Tewksbury Hospital, Patient Recreation Fund, c/o Administration, 365 East St. Tewksbury, MA 01876 will be
appreciated.
