Obituary

Edward J. Pendergast, of Billerica a retired Newton Police officer, died Fri Jan. 5, 2007 at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington. He was 72.
Born and raised in Newton he attended Newton Schools and graduated from Newton High School. He later went on to graduate from Boston College. He served as a Sgt. in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. Ed had lived in Billerica for over 30 years and was a member of the Billerica Elks. He retired from the Newton Police after 39 years of service.
He is survived by his wife Carol (Gath) Pendergast, his daughter Erin Pendergast of Billerica, his step children Christopher Gath Clarke of Merrimac NH, Suzanne Clarke Carpenito of Orlando FL, Heather Clarke Meleedy of Nashua NH, and Heidi Clarke Wieting of Billerica. He is also survived by his sister Evelyn Waldvogel of Newtonville and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Mary Waldvogel, Phyllis Sharek, Doris Delaney, Charles Pendergast, William Pendergast, and Janice Muzi.
Relatives and friends will gather at the Eaton & Mackay Funeral Home 465 Centre St. Newton Corner on Mon Jan 8 at 9:30 AM and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady Help of Christians Church, Newton at 10:30 AM. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Newton Cemetery. Visiting hours will be in the funeral home on Sun from 4-8 PM.
