Obituary

Georgina Mello, 84, of Westport, MA, died peacefully in her home on November 2, 2026, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, "G.G." (great grandmother), and friend. Gina touched many lives with her positive attitude and sense of humor. A rare combination of a fiercely independent spirit and vibrant personality was beautifully balanced by her deeply caring and loving heart, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Gina was born and raised in Fall River, MA, the daughter of the late Antone and Rose (Cabral Silva) Rezendes. Her first job at the Shelburne Shirt Co. was where she met the love of her life and husband of over 26 years, the late Robert Mello. Over the years, she also worked in local retail shops, as an office clerk at Boston Mutual Insurance, and as a bookkeeper at the B.C.C. bookstore before retirement.

In addition to her husband and parents, Gina was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Antone and Irene Rezendes; brother-in-law, Laurenio Pavao; and her late husband's siblings, Maria Pereira (and her late husband Luis), Manuel Mello (and his late wife Irma), Rose Luz, and Joseph "Ricky" Mello.

Surviving family members include her loving daughter, Tammy Camara, and her husband, Stephen; devoted son, Dennis Mello, and his wife, Lisa; granddaughters, Amanda Sims, and her husband, Christopher, and Janna Nadeau, and her husband, Derek; great-grandchildren, Gracelyn, Juliette, Mckenzie, Theodore, and Alexis; and many nieces and nephews.

She is also survived by her sister Irene Pavao and sister-in-law Gloria Amaral.

Gina also leaves behind her longtime companion, Albert “Pete” Thibeault, with whom she shared many wonderful years. She especially enjoyed their many camping adventures together. She also leaves behind cherished family members Marsha and Elaine.

Services and burial will be private at Beech Grove Cemetery in Westport, where Gina will be reunited at last with her much-loved and missed husband, Robert.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or a charity of your choice in honor of Gina's memory.
