Obituary

Richard C. Heroux, 87, of Woonsocket died peacefully Friday evening October 30, 2026 at The Holiday in Manville surrounded by his loving family.
Born and raised in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Pierre and Clara (Guilmette) Heroux. He was a resident of Woonsocket for most of his life. While raising his family, he also lived in North Smithfield for about 20 years before returning to Woonsocket.
Mr. Heroux was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during the late 1950s and early 1960s.
Richard was a talented truck and car mechanic. During his career he worked at Menard Ford and Picard Motors and was later employed with Consumers Oil Company until retiring in 2001.
Richard was a member of the Woonsocket Elks (B.P.O.E.) Lodge #850.
Richard was a lifelong auto racing enthusiast. He co-owned a race car with his friend Lenny Plasse while Richard’s son Rob was the driver. Richard was frequently right by the trackside at Thompson Speedway as he cheered on his son. His love of racing continued through the generations, as he was also involved with his granddaughter’s quarter midget race team. He enjoyed being part of the excitement, supporting her and sharing his passion for racing with another generation of his family.
Richard was a true motorcycle enthusiast, as he loved to ride and rebuild motorcycles. He especially enjoyed taking motorcycle trips with his friends, hitting the open road, taking in the scenery and beautiful weather, and making lasting memories along the way.
In his later years Richard took up golf and found fulfillment in the fresh air, exercise and camaraderie of a day on the golf course. He especially enjoyed golfing with his friends and sharing plenty of good times and laughter. He also treasured going on fishing trips aboard his son Ricky’s boat, enjoying time on the water and making memories together.
One of Richard’s favorite times of the year was the annual family reunion, a cherished tradition that had brought the family together for 25 years. Richard played an important role in keeping that tradition alive and bringing everyone together. He treasured the opportunity to reconnect with loved ones, share stories and laughter, and create lasting memories with generations of his family.
Above all, Richard will be remembered for the love and devotion he had for his four children. Being a father was one of the most important parts of his life, and he took great pride in each of his children. He was dedicated to them, cared deeply about their lives and accomplishments, and treasured the bond they shared. His love and support remained a constant throughout their lives, and his family was at the heart of everything he did. The memories they made together will remain a lasting part of his legacy.
Richard is survived by his children, including sons Richard C. Heroux, Jr. of Voluntown, CT, Russell A. Heroux and his wife Tracy of Pompano Beach, FL, Robert M. Heroux and his wife Erin of Rehoboth, MA, and daughter Robyn Winchester and her husband Bob Spear of New Gloucester, Maine. He was the brother of Pierre Heroux and his wife Loretta of Rochester, Minnesota, and the late Ronald Heroux and Henri Heroux. Richard was the proud grandfather of 17 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews and their families. Richard was the longtime companion of Marie Jeanne Gignac of North Carolina and was the former husband and friend of Priscilla (Dugas) Heroux of Sanford, Maine.
In accordance with Richard’s wishes, visiting hours are omitted and burial will be private.
