SCARBOROUGH- Stephen Carl Bubar, age 68, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2026 at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Scarborough, Maine with his beloved sister and family at his bedside. Stephen, born on June 20, 1958 in Lewiston, Maine, was the adopted infant son of Mabel (Simpson) and Ivan Bubar of LIttleton, Maine. He grew up on the family potato farm on Ross Ridge in Littleton with his parents, sister Stephanie, and grandfather Bliss Bubar.
Stephen attended school in LIttleton and graduated from Houlton HIgh School in 1977. Following graduation from high school he worked on the family farm and enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving from 1978-1982. During his tenure in the Air Force, Stephen was stationed at Grand Forks Air Base, North Dakota and Osan Air Base, South Korea.
Upon returning home, Stephen moved to Florida and worked in the construction industry in the Tampa Bay area for 20 years. He returned to Maine in 2003 and continued operating heavy equipment at White Brothers, Westbrook and Shaw Brothers Construction, Gorham until retirement.
Steve, also known as “Tater,” is fondly remembered by his friends as a person who loved to go “upta camp” snowmobiling or 4 wheeling in Aroostook county. He enjoyed cheering on his favorite sports teams, the Red Sox and the Denver Broncos, much to the chagrin of friends at the StrikeZone in Old Orchard Beach. Steve looked forward to holidays and special occasions with family and friends.
Stephen is survived by his sister Stephanie (Bubar) Knight and her husband Barton Knight of Limerick; his niece Margaret Knight and husband Bryan Moravec of Tucson, AZ; nephew Samuel Knight and wife Brigitte Knight of North Yarmouth; nephew William Knight and Jennifer Thibeau of Limerick; and three great nephews and one great niece - Ivan, Isaac, Treston and LIly.
