Obituary

Athina Alexiadis, 80, of Worcester died Monday, October 12th in Homestead Hall surrounded by her family. She is survived by her brother, Giorgios Alexiadis and his wife, Rebecca of Serres, Greece; her sisters, Susan Panagiotidis of Paxton, and Pagona Karambinakis and her husband, John of Pomfret, CT, nephews and nieces, Anna Briggs, Chris Panagiotidis, Anita, Ioannis, Rodi and Joanna Alexiadis and Spyridon and Penelope Karambinakis; and many great nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her brother, Triantafyllos Alexiadis.

She was born in Hrisohorifa, Serron Greece, the daughter of Ioannis and Rodi (Dimopoulos) Alexiadis and had been employed by the Angelica Linen Service for many years before retiring. She was a leading example in enjoying life for it’s simple pleasures. Warming her face in the sunshine, a leisurely stroll, or a fresh tomato from the garden. Her connectedness with nature gave her a mastery in the garden. Her tenderness could grow anything from the ground up. You could see the love she gave returned in the countless harvests of vegetables in the summertime. She was known by everyone in her neighborhood; from the cashiers at Big Y to the barista at her local Dunkin Donuts to her surrounding neighbors. Distance never stopped her, you could always find her on a mission for a french cruller or for the loudest toy she could find for one of her nieces or nephews. She should be remembered for her fervent honesty and zest for independence, and most of all her deep care for the world and people around her. She will be sorely missed, and her persistent presence will leave a massive hole. There will never be another light in the family as bright as hers, she was the purest soul we had, and always the culprit for the biggest laughs. Everyone has a story about Athina, and that’s something that should be held tightly and cherished by all.

Her funeral will be held on Friday, October 16th, with her service at 11:00 a.m. in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects on Friday, October 16th from 10:00 until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. in the Cathedral.
