Nicholas J. Carpeno, Jr., age 87, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the loving longtime companion of Margaret K. "Peggy” Tomkins, with whom he made his home.

Born in Norwood, MA on August 13, 1939, he was a loving son of the late Nicholas J., Sr. and Antoinette (Starta) Carpeno.

Nick spent his childhood growing up in Norwood. His family later moved to Mansfield, where he was educated and a 1958 graduate of Mansfield High School.

Prior to retiring, Mr. Carpeno was well-known in the Mansfield community, having worked many years for the Mansfield Department of Public Works, retiring with the position of Foreman. He had formerly worked as a self-employed landscaper and professional flower grower.

Nick especially loved spending time with his family and flowers. He was a member of New England Flower Exchange, formerly known as the Boston Flower Exchange, and will always be remembered for his strong work ethic.

In addition to his longtime companion Peggy, he is survived by his devoted children, Lori A. Palowki and her husband Jack of Florida, Lynn A. Martello and her husband David of North Attleboro, David J. Carpeno of Mansfield and the late Nicholas J. Carpeno, III. He was the cherished grandfather of Nicholas Carpeno, IV, Ian Connell, Alanna Connell, Briana Connell, Anthony Martello, Giovanni Martello, Franco Carpeno and Giovanni Carpeno. He is also survived by his treasured eight great-grandchildren and was the former husband of the late Margaret J. Carpeno.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, October 9th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main Street, Mansfield.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 10th at 11:00 A.M. at the Highland Cemetery, 320 Winter Street in Norwood.
