Obituary

Dionysius “Dan” Dulchinos, age 95, departed this life on October 6, 2026 at home peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Dan grew up and lived his whole life in Chicopee. He was a prominent member of Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church until its closing and then joined Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Holyoke. He received the Ministry Award from the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Boston in 2023 for his dedication and service to the church. He worked his entire professional career as a teacher and guidance counselor in the Chicopee Public school system. Dan was named the Varsity Baseball Coach at Chicopee Comprehensive High School upon its opening in 1962 and led the Colts to 639 victories, 22 league titles, 4 Western Massachusetts titles, and the 1979 Massachusetts State Championship in 50 seasons at the helm of the Colts, retiring in 2012. “Coach D” was named to the inaugural classes of both the Western Mass Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014 and Chicopee Athletics Hall of Fame in 2009 and was also named to Massachusetts Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame in 1985. Dan was selected as the ABCA/Diamond National Coach of the Year - High School Division I baseball in 2003. In recognition of his commitment and contributions to the City of Chicopee and the numerous lives he touched, the baseball diamond at Rivers Park was dedicated in his honor in 1994 and a rededication ceremony was held in 2026. In addition to all his baseball accomplishments, Dan led Chicopee Comp to its first WMass basketball championship title in 1965. Dan was also an avid golfer until the age of 93. He could be found in his free time, first at Oxford Country Club, then Ludlow and Chicopee Country Clubs. Aside from the numerous accolades, Coach Dulchinos was most proud of the impact he had on all of his former players and students. He loved them all, and made sure they all knew he cared about them on and off the field, and for the rest of their lives. Dan was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Anne Dulchinos, his parents Angeline and George Dulchinos, his brothers John and Peter Dulchinos, his sisters Bess Ehrmann and Chris Cahalane. Dan leaves behind three children, Susan and her husband Jeff Kazeroid of Chicopee, Angela and her husband Doug Scipione of Hingham and George and his wife Sarah Dulchinos of Southwick; and seven grandchildren, Ryan Kazeroid and his wife Jenn; Kyle Kazeroid and his wife Devin, Julia and Jessica Scipione and Aiden, Mia and Taylor Dulchinos. Dan also leaves behind his companion Elaine Dutton and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins whom he cherished. The family would like to thank hospice for their kindness, care and compassion for Dan. Calling hours will be held on Monday, Oct. 12, 2026 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee. A Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2026 from 8:30 -9:30 AM at the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass in St George Greek Orthodox Cathedral at 10:00 AM. Burial will take place in Fairview Cemetery.
