Josephine C. (Reale) Whittingham, age 93, formerly of Attleboro, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving sons on Monday, October 5, 2026 at the Preserve at Briarcliffe in Johnston, RI. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas M. Whittingham, to whom she was wed for seventy-three years at the time of his death on March 11, 2025.
Born in Brooklyn, New York on November 21, 1932, she was a loving daughter of the late Alfonso and Carmela (Palumbo) Reale. Josephine grew up and was educated in public schools in Brooklyn, New York. In addition to being a dedicated homemaker to her adoring family, Mrs. Whittingham had also worked at Swank, Inc. in Attleboro, at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro and in personal childcare. A resident of Attleboro since 1969, Josephine’s happiest times were those spent in the presence of her treasured family, especially with her four grandchildren. Her hobbies included being an avid reader, trips to area casinos and traveling, along with her late husband, throughout the United States She is survived by his devoted sons, Thomas J. Whittingham and his longtime companion Pam Eddleston of Attleboro and Michael A. Whittingham and his wife Barbara of Little River, South Carolina. She was the cherished grandfather of Matthew Whittingham of Attleboro, Mitchell Whittingham of Attleboro, Abigail Whittingham of Blackstone and her twin brother Alexander Whittingham of Walpole. She was the dear sister of Vincent Reale of Staten Island, New York, Carmela Santangelo and her husband Thomas of Fairfield, CT and the late Adeline Colli and Mary Reale. Services, along with burial, at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne will be private. Visiting hours are omitted.
