Thomas A. Young, age 73, of Mansfield, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, September 28, 2026 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of Brenda J. (Polselli) Young, to whom he was wed for forty-eight years.
Born in Norwood, MA on April 28, 1953, he was a loving son of the late Warren E. and Rita M. (Rossi) Young.
Tom grew up in Walpole and was a 1971 graduate of Walpole High School. During the Vietnam Era, he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army and was honorably discharged from duty on January 20, 1976. He later returned to his studies, receiving an associate’s degree from Bristol Community College.
A talented diesel mechanic for Cumberland Farms, Tom began his working career at Peterbilt and was always known for his strong work ethics. He loved spending time with his family and ever-so-proud when attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. Tom was also an avid reader and along with his family, attended Saint Mary’s Church in Mansfield.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his devoted children, Kristen L. Young and her fiancé Scott Giannetti of Mansfield and Brian T. Young of Mansfield. He was the cherished grandfather of Aiden Lopes and Jackson Lopes. He was the dear brother of Kathleen A. Buckley and her husband Kevin of Taunton, Marcia A. Simpson and her husband Scott of Sandwich and Mary Ellen Cook and her husband Gene of Texas. He was the much-loved son-in-law of Lillian Polselli of Fall River and the late Eugene “Gino” Polselli. He is also survived by his loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, October 6th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main Street, Mansfield.
His Funeral mass will be celebrated in Saint Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt Street (Route 106) Mansfield on Wednesday, October 7th at 10:00 A.M. Burial accompanied by military honors rendered by the United States Army will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 12:30 P.M.
Due to the limitation of floral tributes allowed at the National Cemetery, Thomas’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the New England Center and Home for Veterans, 17 Court Street, Boston, MA 02108.
