LOWELL – Mrs. Helen (Poulios) Patterson, 94 passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at her home with her loving family by her side.
Helen was born June 13, 1932, in Lowell, Massachusetts, a daughter of the late Thomas and Ziotsa (Deros) Poulios. She was married to the late James A. Patterson who passed on June 22, 1995.
A resident of Lowell all her life, she lived in the Belvidere section in a beautiful country French style home built by a local architect. She met her husband Jim at a friend’s wedding, and they married in 1953 a year after catching the bride’s bouquet.
Helen was a graduate of Lowell High School, Class of 1950 and a member of the National Honor Society. She also took additional course work to help to advance her career.
During the Korean Conflict she was a civil service employee at Fort Devens Army Base in Ayer, MA. where she worked as a secretary at the Army Headquarters. In 1979 she returned to the workforce as an executive secretary at Honeywell, in Billerica, MA.
Under the tutelage of her mother, Helen learned the cooking and baking of the Macedonian Cuisine of Northern Greece. She also loved to knit, sew, embroider, write and send cards to family and friends. She was an avid gardener who loved flowers and plants where she planted them in window boxes and in her sunroom. Helen was an avid reader and enjoyed watching Jeopardy.
As a young girl her father taught her the folk dances of his beloved Trikala, Greece along with her older brother Bill and younger sister Toula who she shared her passion. In her later years, Helen shared her large home with her daughter and family when her husband Jim passed. She enjoyed being an involved grandmother (Yia Yia) because she never got to know her grandparents when her parents migrated to the U.S. A. A beach lover, Helen, spent her summers at Ogunquit and Wells beach in Maine and at her son’s home in Mashpee, Cape Cod where she loved to go to South Beach.
She is survived by her son, Alan Patterson and his wife Moira, her daughter, Lynda Rocha and her husband Lawrence, and her daughter in law Linda Patterson, loving Yia Yia to five grandchildren, Douglas Patterson and his wife Debbie, Evan Rocha, Thalia Rocha, Isabella Rocha and Andrew Kong and James Rocha and his wife Arianna, and a two great children, Donovan Kong and Ryan Patterson also two sisters in law, Virginia Poulios and Anne Patterson; one brother in law, James Daoulas also many nieces and nephews.
Helen was pre-deceased by her four brothers, William, Arthur, Tarsy and Charles Poulios, also her sister, Sultana Daoulas. Also, she was pre-deceased by her in laws, Bess Poulios, Phillip Patterson and George Patterson

PATTERSON - Relatives and friends will be received at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Lowell on Friday, September 25, 2026, visiting hour from 10:00am to 11:00 am. Her funeral service will follow at 11:00am at the Church. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery.
