April (Silva) Westgate, 53, of East Freetown, passed away on Monday September 21, 2026. Born in Taunton, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Carol (Brown) Silva.
She leaves behind the love of her life Milton Westgate III, her daughter Carolyn Westgate-Gaspar and her husband Brandon, as well as her son Milton Westgate and his wife Sarah, all residing in East Freetown. April was the proud Grammy of Stella May Gaspar and Stanley Donald Gaspar. She was also loved by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Milton Westgate Jr. and Barbara Westgate of East Freetown.
April worked at Chadwicks of Boston before leaving to raise her babies. She was then a substitute teacher in the Freetown-Lakeville Public Schools for many years where she made many friends and had a great impact on the students. She was a major asset in both her husband and son’s businesses, taking care of things behind the scenes, all while managing to maintain a spotless, welcoming home.
She loved spending time with her friends and extended family members every chance she got. From going out to eat at her favorite restaurants to shopping with her girls, she always prioritized quality time with those she loved. Some of the fondest family memories were at Disney World in Florida, where they took annual vacations in their motorhome. Among other memories are frequent cookouts and days by the pool listening to her favorite music.
She was always caring for her dogs, and even the dogs of her family members. Jake, Sam, Tucker, Teddy, Ollie and Reuben were her four-legged children and grandchildren. She was always known to have a cookie or two ready in her pocket. Her most recent years were spent caring for and spoiling her grandchildren, Stella and Stanley. They were the pride and joy of her life. Most days were spent swinging, playing, swimming, and laughing.
There could never be enough words to express the love and care she had for her immediate and extended family. She made everyone she came in contact with feel seen, loved, and accepted for who they are. She was a listening ear for anyone who needed it, the glue of her family, and the one who took care of things and people.
In death, she reunites with her parents, Donald and Carol Silva and her grandmother Antoinetta (Barrago) Silva.
She will be remembered for the beautiful daughter, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grammy, niece, cousin, friend, and person that she is. Her memory will live on in her generous husband, her loving children, and her smart, joyful, and beloved grandchildren.
Visitation to which relatives and friends are invited will be Friday, September 25, 2026 at Kirby Funeral Home in New Bedford from 10:00 to 11:30 AM immediately followed by an 11:30 AM service.
Interment will be private.
