STEEP FALLS- Roberta Irene Lane, 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 16th, 2026.
She was born in Westbrook, ME to Robert and Goldie (Johnston) Lane, one of 5 children. She grew up in Bartlett, NH ang graduated from Bartlett High School.
Roberta worked as a waitress and other odd jobs before moving home to help tend to her ailing parents. While home she also helped care for many nieces and nephews over the years. Roberta came to live with her nephew Bruce and his wife and children. There she helped with the house and watching over his sons while Bruce and Phyllis worked. She even was able to be there when Bruce’s grandsons Jeffrey and Hunter arrived. She would light up anytime they visited. Though she was always called Auntie, or Aunt Berta, she was more like a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to them.
Roberta lived with Bruce and Phyllis for over 20 years before breaking a hip in a fall at home. After that she required more care. She moved into The Casco Inn in Casco in May of 2019, and after a little time she settled in and really enjoyed her surroundings. She made many friends and participated in a lot of activities, and at near 90 received the nickname “Birdie” which she thoroughly enjoyed.
Roberta enjoyed visits from family and friends. Everyone she knew would receive a homemade card on special occasions, each with a drawing that would resemble them and a favorite hobby or pastime.
Roberta was a long-time member of the Berean Bible Church in Steep Falls, helping with yard sales and bake sales over the years. A special thank you to Pastor John Kozey who always found time to visit Roberta and send her weekly bulletins to keep her included while she was in Casco.
Roberta is predeceased by her parents, her brother John Lane and his wife Ona, her sister Joan, her sister Shirley and her husband James Lord, and her sister Georgia and her husband Guy Wilson.
She leaves behind many nephews and nieces and great- nephews and nieces and great-great nephews and nieces.
Our heartfelt thanks also goes out to the team at The Casco Inn who made her feel at home and among family. And our thanks to the team at Beacon Hospice who provided tender care and attention during these last few years. The family truly appreciates both the team at The Casco Inn and the team at Beacon Hospice for your exceptional care and love.
Visitation will be held on Thursday Sept. 24 from 10 - 11 AM, followed by an 11 AM funeral service at the Poitras, Neal & York Funeral Home, 71 Maple St., Cornish. Following the service a reception will be held at the Greenleaf Masonic Lodge in Cornish. Burial will be amongst close family at Steep Falls Cemetery.
