
Charles J. Hallal, 80, of Westport, passed away peacefully while surrounded by family on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the beloved life partner of the late Judith A. (Santos) Foster.
Mr. Hallal was born in Fall River, son of the late John J. and Barbara J. (Assad) Hallal and brother of the late Peter Bechara Hallal and had resided in Westport for over 30 years. He was affectionately known to his family as "Chucky" while his friends knew him as "Charlie." He was a 1964 graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School and attended Phoenix Community College in Arizona. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Prior to retirement, he worked as a computer analyst for Putnam Investments, worked for CBS in New York City, and was a privately contracted pilot for many years while owning a Piper airplane. He also worked as a flight instructor out of the Teterboro Airport in New Jersey. Most recently, he held jobs at a local dry cleaner and at the Westport Apothecary.
Charlie was an active communicant and choir member at St. Anthony of the Desert Church, Fall River, where he played the Oud and the Derbake. He enjoyed time with family and friends, especially at Holiday Lanes, the Oriental Pearl, and East Beach in Westport. He especially cherished sharing his love for music with his grandchildren. Charlie was also a proud member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), and the National Association of Flight Instructors (NAFI).
Survivors include his 2 step-daughters: Kristen A. Hoyt and her husband Dan of Middletown, CT, and Keri J. Foster and her fiancé Kyle Carmichael of Westport; 3 grandchildren: Aiden, Kyla, and Garret; along with many beloved cousins and friends.
Charlie's family would like to extend their utmost gratitude to the amazing staff in the emergency room, the intensive care unit, and the Palliative Care/Hospice team at Charlton Memorial Hospital. Their kindness and compassion will always be remembered.
Funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are invited, will be Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at St. Anthony of the Desert Church, 300 N. Eastern Ave., Fall River, MA 02723, at 11:15 A.M.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday at the church from 9-11 A.M. prior to the Mass.
Interment to follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River.
