SPRINGFIELD – Marie Jeanne (Fontaine) Mireault, 92, of the Sixteen Acres section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, September 15, 2026. She passed into Eternal Life at Lifecare Center of Wilbraham in Wilbraham surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Springfield on June 28, 1934, a beloved daughter of the late Paul E. and Annette B. (Bedford) Fontaine. She was raised in the Indian Orchard section of Springfield, graduated from the former Cathedral High School in Springfield and had lived in Indian Orchard most of her life before moving to Sixteen Acres in 1999. She was employed as a transcriptionist at Goodwill Industries in Springfield. She was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee and was a member of the Golden Panthers Alumni of Cathedral High School. During her leisure time, she enjoyed reading and sewing. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren, especially at their school and sporting events and their special life’s moments. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Deacon Leon M. Mireault who was Called Home on November 10, 2020. They were married on April 19, 1954 at Saint Aloysius Church in Indian Orchard and were blessed with over 66 years of happiness together. She leaves her three loving children, David A. Mireault and his wife, Holly, of Auburn, ME, Philip L. Mireault of Springfield and his daughter, Alyson Mireault, and Denise M. Hannigan and her husband, Joseph, of Somers, CT; her cherished grandchildren, Sarah H. Corey and her husband, Mark, of West Hartford, CT and Christopher J. Hannigan of Boston; her great grandson, Camden Joseph Corey; her two sisters in law, Joan Fontaine of Feeding Hills and Maureen Fontaine of Ludlow; her many nephews, nieces, cousins and her many friends including Lenny and Jeannine Gorman. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her three dear brothers and her dear sister, Louis-Paul Fontaine and his wife, Theresa, Germaine Robbins and her husband, Norman, Eugene Fontaine and Donald Fontaine. Her Funeral will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2026 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 594 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her Burial will follow the Mass at Saint Aloysius Cemetery, 1273 Berkshire Avenue, Springfield, MA 01151. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, September 22, 2026 from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. prior to her Mass. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
