Obituary

WEBSTER – Irene (Stasko) Chosta Minski, 100, died Thursday, September 3, 2026 after a brief illness. Her first husband of 36 years, Bernard “Ben” Chosta died in 1986 and her second husband of 22 years, Chester Minski died in 2017.

She leaves her two nieces and caregivers, Betty Ann McNulty and her husband Philip of Webster and Jane E. Rutter and her husband Kevin of Dudley; a nephew, Robert M. Minarik and his wife Debra of Douglas; 2 great-grandchildren; many great nieces and nephews, and many great-great-nieces and nephews; and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her son Gary Chosta who died in 1980 and by her granddaughter Kathleen “Katie” Hebert who died in 2025, and her sister Elizabeth R. “Betty” Minarik who died in 2010.

She was born on December 27, 1925 in Webster, a daughter of Andrew and Anna (Cupka) Stasko and was raised there. She was a 1943 graduate of Bartlett High School and had attended the “Little Red School House” on School Street in Webster as a child. She lived in Vero Beach, FL (which she referred to as “paradise”) for many years before returning to Webster after her second husband’s death.

Mrs. Minski worked as a bookkeeper at various businesses before retiring in 1986.

Irene was an extremely active person who rode the stationary exercise bike daily at the Webster Senior Center up until the time of her recent illness. She and Ben enjoyed hiking the mountains in New Hampshire that were over 4,000 feet in elevation or they were considered a preparatory exercise. When she returned back to Webster she enjoyed her walks around town especially to McDonalds and Burger King. She also enjoyed playing the piano, bowling, Polka dancing, daily swims while in Florida, trips to the casino and her junk food.

Her family would like to thank the compassionate caregivers from the Care Central VNA & Hospice in Webster for the exceptional care given to Irene during her final days.

Her memorial Mass will be held Tuesday, September 8, at 11:00 AM in Saint Louis Church, 14 Lake Street (please meet at the church). Burial will take place prior to the Mass at 10:30 AM in Saint Anthony’s Cemetery, Worcester Road. The family requests that flowers be omitted and donations in her memory may be made to either The Webster Senior Center, 5 Church Street, Webster, MA 01570 or to Care Central VNA & Hospice, 534 School Street, Webster, MA 01570. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Sitkowski, Malboeuf & Hickey Funeral Home, 340 School Street.
