Stanley Dale Libby Aug. 16, 1936 – Sept. 5, 2026
HAINES City, FL- Stanley Dale Libby, 90, passed away on September 5, 2026. Born on Munjoy Hill in Portland, Maine, Stan grew up in Buxton, Maine, where he spent most of his life before later moving to the Orlando area and eventually settling in Haines City, Florida. Stan was a proud Navy veteran who went on to build a career of service, with the United States Postal Service as the Employee Assistance Program Coordinator and in later years as the Postmaster for East Sebago. He took genuine pride in helping employees through difficult times and in serving the public throughout his career — work that reflected who he was at his core. He was a member of the Buxton Masonic Lodge #115. He also served on the board for the Milestone Foundation.
Stan was known for his analytical mind, his organization, and his relentless work ethic. A major principle of his life was living one day at a time and encouraged others to do the same. He was a keen woodsman and a jack of all trades. He had a quick wit and a sarcastic sense of humor that never dulled — his mind stayed remarkably sharp right up until the day he died. True to form, Stan passed relatively on his own terms, and told jokes and passed along wisdom for as long as he was able.
He loved spending time with his wife Claudia, kitty Annie and watching the wildlife around their home. His children's favorite memory of him is reading Mother West Wind Stories to them and animating the story telling which brought the woodland animals to life in their minds.
He was predeceased by his mother and step-father, Violet and Clint Bolster; father, Maurice Libby; brother, Calvin Libby; sister Joan Boucher, great-grandson, Jason; and nieces and nephew, Cary, Cathy and Craig Libby.
Stan is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Claudia Libby, who stayed by his side 24/7 in sickness and in health; his fur baby, Annie; his son, Chris Libby of Citrus Springs, Florida; daughter, Stephanie (Libby) Harfoush of Standish, Maine, and son-in-law Dan; grandson, Clint Libby, granddaughter, Marissa Jeffords, step-daughter Danielle Lavway, great grandson Jaxson, his niece, Gretchen Libby of San Rafael, California; and nephew, Chris Boucher and wife Sandy of Hiram, Maine.
At Stan's request, there will not be a public service. His family will honor his memory privately, at a later time and always.
