DUDLEY – Edward C. Starczewski, Jr., 77, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 30, 2026.
He leaves his devoted wife of 55 years, Patricia J. (Quinn) Starczewski; a son, Christopher E. Starczewski and his wife Kathleen of Dudley; Laura S. Scott and her husband Dana of Boylston; three grandchildren, Molly, Sarah, and Colin Starczewski; two brothers-in-law, James P. Quinn and his wife Karen of Paxton, and William T. Quinn, Jr. of Dudley; a sister-in-law, Donna DeChiaro and her husband Matthew of Falmouth; and several nieces and nephews. His brother, Dr. Joseph “Al” Starczewski, passed away in 1989.
Ed was born in Webster on July 28, 1949, the oldest son of the late Edward C. Starczewski, Sr. and Adella T. (Nowosadko) and lived in Dudley his whole life. He graduated from Bartlett High School in 1967 and later earned a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Business from Clark University in Worcester and served in the Army National Guard during the Vietnam Conflict.
Ed worked as a civil engineer for Worcester County Engineering and later as a corrections officer for Worcester County Sheriff’s Department until his retirement in 2004. Ed worked hard, obtaining his real estate license while working full time. He was a real estate agent with Centerwood Realty in Oxford for 20 years. In the early part of retirement, he kept busy as a customer service representative and later as an environmental services department shift manager at Foxwoods–roles he loved because he could talk to many people and be his gregarious self.
While raising his family, Ed served on multiple boards and commissions for the Town of Dudley including the Board of Selectmen and volunteered his time with Troop 273 BSA Dudley and as
equipment manager for a local youth football organization.
Ed valued education, was a big animal lover who truly treated pets as family, enjoyed dining out, going on cruises and bus trips, weightlifting, reading, and scuba diving/snorkeling, as well as the finer things in life, especially being with his family. He will be truly missed for his way of joking around and his animated knack for storytelling.
The family would especially like to thank Mindy, Ed’s home health aide, who provided caring support to him and to Patty in navigating the challenges of being Ed’s full-time caregiver for the last few years of his life.
Memorial calling hours will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 13, at Sitkowski, Malboeuf & Hickey Funeral Home, 340 School Street, Webster with a prayer service beginning at 4:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ed’s name may be made to Be Better, Friends of John Paire, Inc., PO Box 1505, Dudley, MA 01571.
