CHICOPEE – Gil Dutra, 82, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Friday, August 28, 2026. He passed into Eternal Life at home surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Horta, Faial Island, Acores on April 16, 1944, a beloved son of the late Antonio and Maria (Faria) Dutra. He moved with his family to Chicopee in 1956 and graduated from Chicopee Comprehensive High School. He was employed as a machinist at Curtis Universal Joint Company in Springfield. During his leisure time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and many friends. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Terri (Breyare) Dutra. They were married on September 22, 1979 at Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 46 years of happiness together. He also leaves his three loving children, Debbie Dutra of South Hadley, and Tony Dutra and Jessie Dutra, both of Chicopee; his cherished grandson, Brendan Cote of Chicopee; his three dear brothers in law, Arthur Breyare of Chicopee, Daniel Breyare and his wife, Gail, of Palmer and Wilfred Breyare and his wife, Christine, of Colorado; his two sisters in law, Mary Dutra of Charleston, RI and Christine McCann of Chicopee; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends including his dear friends, Dave and Jan Morgan of Chicopee. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his two dear brothers, Manuel Dutra and his wife, Ines, and Roger Dutra; and his dear sister, Alice Fields and her husband, Richard. His family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of Holyoke Visiting Nurse and Hospice especially Debi and Maricruz for their compassionate and loving care of Gil. His family will receive friends on Thursday, September 3, 2026 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. followed by a Prayer Service at 11 a.m. at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that memorial donations be made in his memory to the Boys and Girls Club of Chicopee, 580 Meadow Street, Chicopee, MA 01013.
