Obituary

James Lee Rowell Sr., 82, of Whitman, passed away peacefully on August 13th at Massachusetts General Hospital. He was the loving husband of the late Sharon (D’Appolonio) Rowell.

James was born in Weymouth, the son of the late Frederick Rowell and Isabella (Chalmers) Rowell. He proudly served in the United States Navy before going on to work for Boston Whalers Company.


James enjoyed hunting, fishing, collecting coins, watching old Westerns, taking long walks, and telling jokes, especially “dad” jokes. He was also an avid sports fan and enjoyed spending time with his family.

James is survived by his two daughters, Dawn Mandanici and her husband, Thomas, of Whitman, and Cindy Capozzi and her husband, Richard, of Brockton; his son James Rowell Jr., and his wife, Kelli, of Whitman; his sister and brother in law Larry and Marsha Cayon; three grandchildren, Steven Haskell and his wife, Kristen, Thomas Jr. Mandanici, and Brieanna Mandanici; one great-grandson, Dean James Haskell; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held in the Home of Funerarias Multi Culturel, 238 Court Street, Brockton, on Monday, August 24th, at 9:00 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow at Blue Hill Cemetery, 700 West Street, Braintree.
