WEBSTER - Carleton Robert Wayman Jr., passed away unexpectedly on August 12, 2026, at the age of 82. He was a man who never needed to be the loudest person in the room to make an enduring impression; his quiet, gentle presence made everyone feel instantly comfortable, safe, and deeply valued.
Born on June 19, 1944, he was the son of the late Carleton Wayman Sr. and Cecile (Perron) Wayman. Carleton grew up in the community he loved, graduating from Bartlett High School and attending Nichols College before proudly serving his country in the United States Air Force. He brought that same sense of dedication to his long career in banking as a loan officer at Southbridge Credit Union, and later in his retirement years, working part-time at Cam's Oil Service. For Carleton, these roles were never about personal accolades or titles; they were simply extensions of his innate desire to work hard, help others, and remain an active, reassuring presence in his community.
Above all else, Carleton’s heart belonged to his family. For 57 beautiful years, he shared a life of unconditional devotion with his beloved wife, Joyce (Saad) Wayman. Together, they built a sanctuary of warmth, creating a legacy of love through their daughters, Tammy Poplawski and her husband Scott, and Stephanie Peterson and her husband Thomas Sr. He was a source of immense pride and joy for his grandchildren, Carrie Staggs and her husband Tyler, Christopher Peterson and his wife Rebecca, and Thomas Peterson Jr. and his wife Alexis, as well as his eight cherished great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his siblings Charles Wayman, Susan Perry, Caryl Savard, and Gregg Wayman, and was reunited in peace with his predeceased brother, John Wayman. His memory will also be treasured by many nieces, nephews, and close friends.
Carleton lived a life of quiet goodness, often moving mountains for the people he loved without ever expecting a single thing in return. He was gentle when the world could be ‘difficult, patient in moments of stress, and profoundly generous with his heart.
His family will carry his beautiful example with them forever. In the words of Carleton's grandson, they will honor him "by putting the extra effort to treat others how he treated us, with kindness, respect, and genuine care for others."
Carleton will be deeply missed, but his steady presence, his easy smile, and the pure love he gave so freely will remain a guiding light for generations to come.
