Mark Paul Filett passed away peacefully on July 13, 2026, in the arms of
his loving wife Jackie. Mark was born July 1, 1961 in Waukegan, IL. He is
preceded in death by his parents Robert and Jacqueline Filwett (nee
Berbes), and his brother Vaughan.
Mark was a gifted natural athlete from young on and enjoyed bowling, golf,
and baseball, winning numerous awards, certificates, and trophies. He was
scouted by the Chicago White Sox and attended training camps until he
damaged his knee in intramural sports and couldn't continue his trek toward
a career in pro sports but continued to play on local teams for fun throughout
his life. He had a special brand of wit, charm, and humor that could hold the
listener for hours. He displayed true grit throughout his lifetime when faced
with any challenging situation, right up to the end of his life where his soulful
kindness and remarkable bravery took center stage every day.
In 1979, Mark attended Brown College and earned his degree in Communications and Applied
Science/Broadcasting and enjoyed a news and radio career for years, spending time in California, Wyoming,
Wisconsin, and Illinois. He was always top-rated in his time slots, and a very popular radio personality. Mark
was also a very gifted writer, first writing articles and stories for school newspapers, then writing copy for his
on-air radio work. While in Wyoming, he welcomed a son, Paul.
On June 15, 1991, Mark was united in marriage to Jacqueline Fenninger. Together, they enjoyed spending
time with family and friends, traveling, golf, skiing, boating, baseball games, bicycling, hiking, and gardening.
He always looked forward to harvesting the organic berries he grew. He also loved music, concerts, driving
with the top down, reading, gaming, history, old movies, TV shows, and was an excellent sailor.
Mark later studied to become a broker and was an NASD Arbitrator. This work evolved into a hybrid role with
Information Technology work later on. He really enjoyed and excelled at it, so he branched off to start his own
computer repair and website-building business. He enjoyed serving his customers and earned numerous 5-star
reviews. He was especially kind and charitable with his elderly or disabled customers. He would make house
calls for those in need and often did this at no charge. He really enjoyed his work until the end of his life.
Mark loved his family and friends more than anything else and was always there for anyone that needed him.
He worked on repairing family cars and computers. He could do practically anything, a true renaissance man.
Mark loved planning family events, especially surprises! He was witty, funny, loyal, passionate, loving, hard-
working, kind, charitable, and fiercely protective of those he loved. He was also a fabulous grill and pellet
smoker cook! He cherished his trips to his beloved Mexico, especially Merida and Queretaro, and looked
forward to fully retiring and spending winters there with Jackie to give back to the people and communities that
they had grown to love.
Mark is survived by his wife, Jackie, of 35 years, son Paul (Rachael) Filwett, sister Darcy (Brian) Johnson,
sister Patricia Mueller, brother Guy Filwett, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
The family has suggested, in honor of Mark, that memorials be made to the Glioblastoma Foundation or The
American Diabetes Association.
Mark's family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff for their sterling care and
compassion during the most difficult of times. We also want to thank our family and his closest friends that
made his last days memorable, meaningful, and beautiful.
