Sara Patricia Adams DeVane ("Pat"), of Hernando, Florida celebrated her 98th birthday on July 28th with her family singing Happy Birthday and blowing out candles on her cake from her favorite bakery in Tifton, Ga. On August 8, 2026 she passed away peacefully at home.
Born July 28, 1928, in Tifton, Georgia, Pat was the youngest and last surviving of eight children born to Patrick Polk Adams and Lillian Trimble Adams. She married Donald Robert DeVane on June 8, 1952 and together they shared 46 years of faith, love, laughter and cherished memories.
Pat was a lifelong United Methodist and a faithful member of Hernando United Methodist Church. Before her marriage, she taught in a one-room schoolhouse and throughout her life she remained a teacher at heart, generously sharing her wisdom with family and friends. She was known for her Southern hospitality, exceptional cooking and remarkable talent as a seamstress.
Known affectionally as "Tish" to her nieces and nephews, Pat delighted in time spent with her extended family. She delighted in sharing stories of her childhood and family history. Family gatherings were enriched by her laughter, wisdom and gift for storytelling. Above all, she will be remembered for her gentle spirit, unwavering faith and deep devotion to her family.
She is survived by her children, Phyllis Lendon and husband David; Donnie Brown; and Kim DeVane and his husband Mike Orlito. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Robert DeVane, and son-in-law Mike Brown.
Pat deeply loved her granddaughters, Lori Meeks (and husband Matt), Leslie Bollin, Jessica Lendon (and husband Daniel Gading), and Alicia Lendon (and her partner Becca Steward). Her great-grandchildren, Libby Meeks, Lainey Meeks, Garrett Meeks, Isabella Bollin, Alivia Bollin and Charlotte Bollin multiplied the love she shared.
Pat enjoyed a long and close friendship with Gerri Damron, and others like Alice Able, Betty Self, Jill Jackson, Jane Meek, Karla Rooks, Marion Williams, Wilma Bennet and Ginny Ware. She also kept in touch with church and childhood friends.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at Hernando United Methodist Church in Hernando, Florida, on Friday, August 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. A graveside service will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Tifton, Georgia, on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.
Our Sweet Southern Peach was a blessing, her memory a treasure and her love a gift that will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
