Sarkisian, Marguerite “Peggy” (Bargamian) of Waltham, passed away on August 6, 2026.
Peggy was the beloved wife of the late Levon “Leo” Sarkisian and the devoted and loving mother of Christopher Sarkisian and David Sarkisian and his wife, Jennifer. She was the cherished sister of Lucy Sisoian and aunt of Paul Sisoian. Peggy is also survived by many loving cousins and extended family members.
Peggy grew up in North Providence, Rhode Island, and attended Rhode Island College. She later attended Harvard University, where she earned her master’s degree in education with a focus on guidance. She dedicated her professional life to education, working as a schoolteacher and guidance counselor in Rhode Island, Indiana, and Massachusetts. Her 15 years with the Waltham Public Schools were an especially meaningful part of her career. Peggy deeply valued the people she worked alongside and the friendships and lasting relationships she formed with her colleagues over the years. For 60 years, she made Waltham her home and became a treasured part of the community.
Throughout her life, Peggy remained deeply connected to her Armenian heritage and community. She was a lifelong member of the Armenian Youth Federation (AYF) and the Armenian Relief Society (ARS), organizations that held a special place in her life and reflected her enduring commitment to her Armenian heritage and community. It was through her involvement in the AYF that Peggy met Leo, beginning a life together centered on family, Armenian heritage, and community.
Peggy’s greatest joy was her family. She treasured time spent together, especially sharing dinners and conversation around the table. Her generous and welcoming nature made family and friends always feel at home in her company. When enjoying quieter moments, Peggy could often be found with a good book. She will be remembered most for the warmth she shared, her generosity toward others, and the love and devotion she gave to her family.
Funeral services will be held at Saint Stephen’s Armenian Church, 38 Elton Avenue, Watertown, on Thursday, August 13, at 12:00 noon. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held at the church on Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon, immediately prior to the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Saint Stephen’s Armenian Church in Peggy’s memory.
Interment will follow at Newton Cemetery, Newton.
