Obituary

NORTH GROSVENORDALE, CT - Agnes (Dias) Oleksiak, 97, died Friday, July 24, 2026 in Westview Nursing Care & Rehabilitation, Dayville, with family at her side. Her husband of 39 years, Edward Oleksiak, died in 1988.

She leaves 6 children, Michael Oleksiak and his wife Rose of Waterville, ME, Theresa Nichols and her husband Rex of North Grosvenordale, John A. Oleksiak and his wife Cheryl of Ludlow, MA, James S. Oleksiak and his wife Jeanne of North Grosvenordale, Cynthia A. Leander of Windsor Locks, and Richard J. Oleksiak and his companion Kim Tonkin of North Grosvenordale; 12 grandchildren, Jason Steele, Kim Neal, Melissa Caisse, Benjamin Nichols, Lori Gattinella, Jennifer Theriaque, Daniel Oleksiak, Adam Oleksiak, Kristin English, Michael Leander, Jared Oleksiak and Sarah Oleksiak;15 great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Bob Steele of Millbury, MA; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter Barbara Steele, by her brothers John and Emanuel Dias, and by her sister Hilda Hebert.

She was born in Dartmouth, MA on December 14, 1928, a daughter of John and Herminia V. (DeSilva) Dias and was raised there. She lived in New Bedford, MA before moving here in 1948.

Mrs. Oleksiak first worked as a stitcher at Bates Shoe Company and then was a solderer and bead winder at Olektron Corporation, both in Webster. When she retired, she was a home health aide for the Samaritans.

Agnes was a communicant of Saint Stephen’s Church in Quinebaug and a member of the former PAV Auxiliary in Webster. She enjoyed the outdoors and gardening. She loved family gatherings.

The family would like to express their thanks to the staff at Westview Rehab for the care of their mother while she was a resident there.

Her funeral will be held on Friday, July 31, from the Sitkowski, Malboeuf & Hickey Funeral Home, 340 School Street, Webster, with a Mass at 11:00 AM in Saint Stephen’s Church, corner of Routes 131 and 197 in Quinebaug. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace, Webster. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday, July 30, in the funeral home.
