Rudolph V. “Van” Lewis, age 93, of Norton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 15, 2026 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of Laura L. (Monteiro) Lewis, to whom he was wed for thirty-five years.

Born in Bessemer, Alabama on July 21, 1932, he was a loving son of the late Hosea, Sr. and Ottney (Moss) Lewis.

Van spent his early childhood living in Alabama. His family later moved to Boston, where he was educated and a graduate of English High. For twenty-two years, Mr. Lewis proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force. Throughout his military career, he served in numerous countries, was the recipient of many awards and was honorably discharged with the rank of Master Sergeant. Following his military retirement, he was employed by the phone company.

A member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness Mansfield congregation, Van’s favorite times were those spent in presence of his loving and adoring family. Along with his wife Laura, the couple traveled extensively throughout the country and abroad. Van also enjoyed listening to the news and always keeping up on current events.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his devoted children, Michael Lewis of Mansfield, Cynthia Bartos and her husband John of Mashpee, Andrea Lewis of Sudbury, Emmett Bailey of Mattapan, Leonard D. Widdess of Norton and the late Ronald Bailey, Derek Widdess and Angela Knight. He was the brother of the late Hosea Lewis, Jr. and is also survived by his cherished eight grandchildren.

Services and burial will be private and visiting hours are omitted.
