Gerard C. "Chuck" Nugent, Jr.
7/12/2026

Gerard C. “Chuck” Nugent, Jr., age 66, of Mansfield, passed away unexpectedly, yet peacefully on Sunday, July 12, 2026. He was the beloved husband of Diane Hall Nugent, to whom he was wed for thirty-six years.

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on February 9, 1960, he was a loving son of the late Gerard C. and Lorraine Stockman Nugent.

Chuck grew up in Philadelphia and was a 1978 graduate of George Washington High School. While growing up in Philadelphia, Chuck was raised in St Andrews-in-the Field Episcopal Church. Following high school, he continued his studies, graduating in 1982 from Penn State University. Following college, Chuck was employed for eleven years at General Dynamics in Norwich, Connecticut where he met Diane and many lifelong friends. After moving to Massachusetts, he worked for Putnam Investments which after several mergers is now Telus Health, a career that spanned thirty-three years as a software developer/project manager.

Chuck’s love for his family was overwhelming, as was his lifelong passion for swimming. He started swimming at Somerton Springs Swim Club in Feasterville, Pennsylvania, swam throughout his high school years and played club water polo while at Penn State University. Chuck passed on his love for swimming to his children and continued being a big part of the swimming community, serving as an official for US Swimming, as well as in both high school and college levels. In December of 2025, he was recognized as the MIAA Swimming Official of the Year.

Chuck enjoyed spending time along the water, especially at North Wildwood, New Jersey and Cape May, New Jersey, Avery Point in Groton, Connecticut, watching beautiful sunrises along the Cape Cod Canal and anywhere along the Mystic River. Always with binoculars in hand, Chuck could often be found taking in the scenery of boats, submarines, lighthouses, birds and marine wildlife. He was also a lifelong Penn State Football fan.

While growing up in Philadelphia, Chuck was raised in St Andrews-in-the Field Episcopal Church. He enjoyed watching and feeding the birds, especially hummingbirds, that frequented his yard and was proud of the flower gardens at his home in Mansfield, where he had lived since 1993. He also enjoyed the simple pleasure of relaxing on his recliner with his dog “Bailey” and telling infamous “dad jokes.”

Chuck will always be remembered for his kind and affable nature by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his devoted children, Matthew G. Nugent and his girlfriend Megan Hoffman of Quincy and Kathryn S. Nugent of Mansfield. He was the dear brother of Barbara A. Nugent and her husband Nicholas Lezzi of Pennsylvania and William J. Nugent of Pennsylvania. He was the much-loved son-in-law of Robert and Mary Hall of Sharon. He was the cherished brother-in-law of Sheila H. Cope and her husband Steve of Georgia and Karen S. Hall of Sharon. He was the loving uncle of Brian Cope of Georgia, and he was a proud “Nugent” cousin
