Gladys C. (Wordell) Grundy, 95, of Westport, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 10, 2026, at Clifton Rehabilitation & Nursing Center. She was the beloved wife of the late Walter E. Grundy, Sr., with whom she shared 52 years of marriage.
Born in Little Compton, Rhode Island, she was the daughter of the late Glenwood R. and Rena M. (Brownell) Wordell. Gladys lived in Little Compton, Dartmouth, Assonet, and Westport throughout her life. Prior to her marriage, she was employed by Harley Manufacturing Company in Fall River.
A devoted homemaker, Gladys spent 11 years traveling throughout numerous states and Puerto Rico with her husband before the couple settled permanently in Westport. Upon returning, she became an integral part of Grundy Lumber Supply, which she owned and operated alongside her husband and son, Walter, for 24 years until the business closed in 2000.
She is survived by her son, Walter E. Grundy, Jr. of Westport; her three grandsons, Matthew Grundy and his wife, Vanessa, of Manchester, New Hampshire, Richard Grundy and his wife, Amanda, of Westport, and Jacob Grundy and his wife, Heather, of Westport; and her three great-grandchildren, William and Samuel of New Hampshire, and Gabrielle of Westport. She also leaves several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Glenwood “Pete” Wordell, Philip Wordell, and Frederick Wordell, and by her sister, Ruth Farias.
