Obituary

Westfield – George J. Cosmopoulos, age 88, passed away on July 10, 2026. He was born on April 30, 1938 in Holyoke, MA, son of the late John George and Panagiota "Toula" (Kanelopoulos) Cosmopoulos. George was a member of the former Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church and, most recently, Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Holyoke. George was a devoted member of the Greek Orthodox community. For many years he served on the Parish Council and sang in the church choir. He was proud of his Greek heritage and enjoyed sharing food, dancing and tradition with family and friends. A graduate of Chicopee High School, Class of 1955, he attended MA College of Pharmacy and later obtained his Masters in Education. George served as a teacher and guidance counselor at Holyoke High School for decades. Teaching others was his passion. He was always patient and willing to help his students succeed. George was an avid outdoorsman who spent much of his free time hunting, skiing and fishing with his lifelong friends. He was one of the founding members of the Western Mass Bird Dog Club and spent many cherished years with his friends there. George loved sports and was a dedicated Red Sox and Patriots fan. He enjoyed spending time watching his children and grandchildren play sports and he loved to "coach" from the sidelines. Above all else, family was his life. He met his wife and together they raised their family in Westfield. To say George was known and loved by everyone in town would be an understatement. With his infectious friendliness and quick wit, he was a familiar face everywhere he went. He never missed a chance to share a joke or brighten someone's day, leaving a lasting mark on the hearts of all who knew him. He is predeceased by his beloved wife Anna “Anne” (Pappas) Cosmopoulos and by his brother Stephen Cosmopoulos. He is survived by his son John Cosmopoulos and his wife Jennifer of CT; his daughter Katherine “Kat” Cosmopoulos and her husband Ryan Buck of VT; his grandchildren, Jordan, Zoe, Grace and Cora; his niece Andrea Coraccio and her family; his God Brother Michael Coscore and many extended family members and lifelong friends who will miss him dearly.
