Thomas A. Rainville, 71, of Salem, passed away in his home peacefully on Monday, July 6, 2026. He was the loving and devoted husband of the predeceased Cynthia J. (Flynn) Rainville, with whom he shared 44 years of marriage.
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Louis P. Rainville and Frances P. (Gillespie) Rainville. He was a graduate of Salem High School and received his Bachelors Degree from Salem State College. Tom spent time working as a mason in his younger years, eventually moving into electrical engineering, before being employed as a software engineer for Varian Semiconductor Equipment/Applied Materials of Gloucester for over 30 years.
He found his greatest joy in life's simple pleasures. Spending time outdoors hunting and fishing, exploring national parks, and sharing laughter and making cherished memories with his sons and beloved granddaughters. Tom held a great interest in world history, STEM, and following and learning more about the stock market. Of course, you could always find him in his recliner every football Sunday watching the New England Patriots with a craft stout beer and can of cocktail peanuts in hand. He also treasured his mornings spent over breakfast with good friends, where stories were shared and lifelong bonds were strengthened. Whether in nature, with family, or amongst friends, he embraced each moment with warmth and a deep appreciation for the people he loved.
Tom is survived by his sons, Andrew T. Rainville and wife Lauren of Rowley, Gregory A. Rainville and wife Elizabeth of Amesbury, granddaughters Olivia and Emily Rainville of Rowley. He also leaves brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, and an abundance of friends that became like extended family.
Relatives and friends are invited to his visiting hours on Monday, July 13, 2026, from 4-8 PM at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St., [Rt. 114 / 1A] in Salem, MA. Burial will be held privately the following morning.
