
Edward J. Carney
U.S. Navy Veteran and retired Eastern Airlines Mechanic
Edward J. Carney, age 92, a resident of Tewksbury for over 60 years, formerly of Westford, passed away at Tewksbury Hospital on Saturday, July 4, 2026, following an extended illness.
He was the beloved husband of Margaret E. “Marge” (Roy) Carney, who passed away on August 8, 2014.
Born in Brooklyn, NY on December 18, 1933, he was the son of the late Harry J. Carney and the late Ellen (Finn) Carney.
Mr. Carney was raised in Brooklyn, NY and attended local schools.
In 1952, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean War Era. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal as well as the Good Conduct Medal for his active-duty service.
Prior to his retirement, Ed was employed as a mechanic by Eastern Airlines at Logan International Airport in Boston.
He enjoyed puttering around his home and was known for his skill in fixing things. In addition, he loved playing golf at many area courses.
Ed is survived by his children, Lynn Clifford, of Haverhill, Dianne Carney, of Lowell, Edward “Ted” Carney, Jr., of Derry, NH, David Carney and his wife Lisa, of Tyngsborough and Steven Carney and his wife Dee Dee, of Tewksbury: eight grandchildren, Corinne and Caitlin Clifford, Jared, Jacob, Alex, Zachary, Meghan and Dan Carney. Ed was the brother of Mary Holmes and her husband Bill, of Westford, and the late Veronica Leonard and Ann Booth.
He leaves many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
All are invited to his graveside service to be held Wednesday, July 15th, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Cemetery, 90 River Road, Tewksbury. There are No Calling Hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Tewksbury Hospital Patients Fund, 365 East St., Tewksbury, MA 01876.
