Obituary

GORHAM - Louis Stanley Dombek, age 83, passed away at his home on July 2, 2026. He was known to his friends and family as Lou or Louie, and of course Dad, but his favorite name to go by was, without a doubt, Papa as he was called by his grandsons.

Lou was born in Yonkers, New York on September 23, 1942, a son of the late Stanley and Stephanie (Krych)Dombek. After graduating from Yonkers High School in 1960, he studied Forestry at Syracuse University for a year and then earned an associate degree in Electrical Technology from Westchester Community College.

Lou moved to #27 Spruce Street in Yonkers when he was 13 years old. As fate would have it, Jean Egiziaco, the girl who would eventually become his beloved wife and best friend, lived next door at #25. Lou and Jean married on August 31, 1963, at St. Casmir’s church in Yonkers, NY and they spent more than 62 years together. They lived in Yonkers during their early years as a married couple and later moved to Peekskill, NY where they would raise their two children, Louie & Kelly. In January of 2000, Lou and Jean moved to Gorham, Maine where they built a new home and started a new chapter in their lives together.

Lou began his career with Consolidated Edison in New York in September of 1961 and remained with the company until his retirement in January of 2000. During his 39 years of employment with Con Ed, he worked his way from a meter reader in NYC to the Radioactive Waste Shipment Manager in the Indian Point nuclear power plant to his final position as a Rad Waste Safety Instructor at the Toddville Education Center. He was so proud of his work and loved to tell stories about his time in the city and in the plant itself. Some were simply funny reflections on things he saw and some were true snapshots of NYC history. He always had a story to tell.

Lou was an avid lifelong bass fisherman who even carved his own lures. One of his greatest legacies is the lessons he taught about not just the art of catching a beautiful bass, but how to respect nature, see the beauty in it and protect it for the future. Lou also loved to be outdoors working in his yard and caring for the hundreds of daylily varieties that he grew. His yard was awash in beautiful blooms every summer. He would feed the birds and keep track of the wildlife in the yard. He was rarely seen without either his John Deere tractor or gator close by. He was also known for the way he kept his vehicles in perfect condition. He knew every carwash in the local area and always had his California duster on hand. Lou loved his truck, a beautiful green GMC Sierra known to everyone as Big Green. Lou’s grandsons, Will and Thomas, were his pride and joy. The name Big Green represented Lou’s support of Bonny Eagle Football, the high school football team his grandsons played for. He was especially proud of their 2019 Class A State Championship win. He loved to tell the story of how his grandsons played together in that game and helped the team earn that state championship victory.

Louis is survived by his beloved wife - Jean E. (Egiziaco) Dombek; his children - Louis J. Dombek of Yorktown Heights, NY and Kelly Horton and her husband Tim of Standish; his grandsons - William and Thomas Horton; his sister Anna May Toledano and her husband Mike of FL; his brother-in-law Gary Roe of NC; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

In accordance with Lou’s wishes, his immediate family will gather privately to honor his life. Memories and
condolences may be shared with the family at www.mainefuneral.com
