Obituary

Kenneth “Ken” C. Barton, 83, of West Boylston died Monday, June 29th in Avita of Newburyport. His wife of 58 years, Margaret Mary “Peg” (Shea) Barton died in 2021. He leaves his daughters, Natalie McCarthy of Portsmouth, NH, Danielle Mullen and her husband, Kevin of West Newbury, MA and Michelle Barton and her partner, Dawn Canario of Westport, MA, and a brother, Richard Barton and his wife, Mary, of Leicester. He also leaves granddaughters, Michaella McCarthy and Katie McCarthy; his grandson, Jameson Canario; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Arlene Wood, and two brothers, Anthony Barton and Robert Barton.
Ken was born and raised in Worcester the son of Howard and Ethel (Sawa) Barton, where he spent his life surrounded by family, friends, and the community he loved. He was a devoted member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, where his faith remained an important part of his life.
Ken dedicated many years of his professional career as the Business Manager at Worcester State University for over 35 years, retiring in 2003 where he was respected for his hard work, commitment, and the relationships he built along the way. Following his retirement, he enjoyed the opportunity to slow down and appreciate life’s simple pleasures.
Among Ken’s greatest joys were his yearly trips to Myrtle Beach., SC and Kissimmee, FL, traditions he looked forward to and treasured. Those trips brought him happiness, relaxation, and lasting memories with those closest to him. He was an avid golfer and took great pride in being a member of Bedrock Golf Club, where he enjoyed spending time on the course and sharing many memorable rounds with friends.
Ken will be remembered for his dedication, his steady presence, and the love he shared with his family and friends. His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
The family would like to thank the staff at Avita of Newburyport for their compassion and care for Ken. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Alzheimer's Association in remembrance of Ken and Peg and for all of the families who are affected by this devastating disease.
His visitation will be Wednesday, July 8th from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester followed by his service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery.
