Joseph A. McDonald
6/28/2026

Joseph Andrew McDonald, 85, of the West End, died at home on June 28, 2026, after a brief illness. A proud graduate of Boston Latin School and Harvard College, Joe returned to Boston in retirement after many years spent traveling the globe for his work in the air force and espionage.

During his years in the military, Joe was committed to the field work which allowed him to serve his country while exploring many different countries and cultures. He called many places home, including the Philippines, Ascension Island, Turkey, and France.

In his retirement, Joe was instrumental in supporting the West End Museum. As President of the Board of the museum, Joe worked tirelessly to preserve and teach the history of his beloved Boston neighborhood. He rejoiced in the neighborhood’s rich, diverse history, mourned its demolition, and celebrated its role in shaping Boston’s culture.

Joe will be mourned by many, including his two sisters, Paula and Lois, seven nieces and nephews, and eleven grand-nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated on Tuesday, July 7th in St. Joseph Church, 68 Cardinal O'Connell Way, Boston, at 10 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Saint Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury.
