David Angelo "Cappy" Capobianco

David Angelo “Cappy” Capobianco, of Saugus passed away on Wednesday, June 24th, at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. He was 81. Born in East Boston, and raised in Medford, Cappy was the son of the late Angelo and Erica "Mary" (Montalto) Capobianco.

Cappy completed his primary education in Medford and went on to graduate from Boston College High School. He enjoyed a long career as a lineman with NYNEX, which extended through the company’s transition to Verizon. Throughout his years there, he enjoyed the confidence and friendship of his colleagues. As a young man he was quite athletic, playing hockey and other sports. He was a Boston sports fanatic and followed all of the teams. He held season tickets for Boston College Football and attended games with his Charlestown buddies. Cappy was also a devoted member of the Knights of Columbus and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

Cappy adored his wife and soulmate of over 50 years, Lola. Together they traveled the world, flying to Europe and sailing the Caribbean. They were great arts enthusiasts and enjoyed the Museum of Fine Arts and regularly took in performances at the Ogunquit Play House. Cappy was also known to try his luck in the casino. Affectionately known as “Uncle Cappy’ and “Papou”, he was above all, a man who loved his wife deeply, was devoted and generous to his family and many friends, and earned the affection of all who knew him.

The beloved husband and soulmate of Lola (Vlahos) Capobianco, Cappy was the dear brother of Paul Capobianco and his life partner, Paul Doughty, of Florida. He was the brother-in-law of the late Thomas M. Vlahos. Cappy was the cherished uncle of Steven Vlahos, and Mark W. Vlahos, his wife Jessica and his sons Cole and Ethan.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, on Wednesday, July 1st from 4 – 7 PM and again on Thursday, July 2nd at 10 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford, at 11 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent in David’s name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
