Hull, MA
Richard J. Lavoie, 79, of Hull, died January 21, 2026 at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston, following a long illness. He was the devoted husband of Barbara S. (Kravitz) Lavoie, with whom he shared 54 years of marriage.
Born in Peabody and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Albert J. and Germaine M. (Perry) Lavoie. Richard was a graduate of St. Joseph School and Academy where he played for both the school as well as Little League baseball. He continued his education at Assumption College where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry, as well as his continuing with baseball and hockey.
Richard served with the US Marine Corps in Quantico during the Vietnam years. Following his honorable discharge, he began working for PP&G Industries in Somerville and became a product manager for the company in Pittsburgh, PA.
He left PP&G to join Phillip Environmental as Vice President and later as V.P. for Safety Kleen in Elgin, IL., followed by V.P. for Burlington Environmental in Tacoma, WA. Richard returned to New England to retire from Clean Harbors in Braintree.
Devoted to his family, he enjoyed boating, cycling and in his younger years, running. He was an avid Boston Sports fan.
In addition to his wife Barbara, he leaves his three sons, Gregory R. Lavoie of Weymouth, Matthew R. Lavoie and wife Tia of Maynard, Christopher Lavoie and wife Danielle of Hull. He also leaves his siblings, Leonard Lavoie of Beverly, Joseph Lavoie and wife Brenda of Gloucester, Michael Lavoie and wife Patricia of Upton, brother-in-law, David Brown of Methuen, Claudia Perron and husband Richard of South Carolina, Christine Damigella and husband Larry of Billerica, Denise Britton and husband Wayne of Danvers, as well as four grandchildren,
Skylar, Bella-Marie, Christian James and Vincenzo Richard, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Jeanne Brown and sister-in-law, Kathleen Lavoie.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Memorial Mass on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at 12 Noon, in Ste Anne Church, 290 Jefferson Avenue, Salem, MA.
