Ramon A. Arroyo, 70, of Lowell, passed away unexpectedly on June 12, 2026 at Lowell General Hospital following a recent and rapid decline in health.
Born on December 28, 1955 in San German, Puerto Rico, Ramon was the son of Aurora Ruiz and was raised by her and his stepfather, the late Jose Del Carmen Rodriguez. As a teenager, he came to the Boston area with his family, where he completed his education and put down the roots that would anchor the rest of his life.
Ramon worked for many years as a mechanic, a trade he pursued with genuine passion. He had a deep love for cars, spending countless hours working on them and taking them to the track. His hands knew engines the way some people know music, and in many ways, he was devoted to both. In the 1970s, Ramon channeled that other great love into a salsa band, where he served as the lead singer. Those who knew him remembered the warmth and energy he brought to a room when the music was right.
He was the devoted husband of the late Sol Melendez Arroyo, who passed away in 1997. In the years that followed, he found comfort and companionship with his longtime friend, Sherry Rodriguez.
Ramon is survived by his beloved mother, Aurora Ruiz, of Lajas, Puerto Rico; his children, Zelma Arroyo of Taunton, MA, Petey Martinez of Dracut, Anthony Arroyo of Taunton, Myrcha Martinez of Nashua, and Ramon A. Arroyo of Dracut; his 15 grandchildren; his siblings, Jose Rodriguez, Henry Rodriguez, and Annie Rodriguez; and his longtime companion, Sherry Rodriguez. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sol Melendez Arroyo, and his sister, Liz Rodriguez.
