Obituary

Gerard Georges, 77, of Woonsocket, died Friday June 12, 2026 at Landmark Medical Center.
Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti he was a son of the late Gesner Georges and Odette Gabriel. He was raised and educated in Haiti attending elementary and secondary school at Ecole Nationale des Caserenes Dessalines from 1958-1963 and Lycee Alexandre Petion from 1964-1972, then college and law school at the Ministry of Education from 1970-1972. He taught math at College Jules Andre Marc from 1974-1980 and was on the Faculty of Law at the State University of Haiti from 1980-1984.
Gerard dedicated his career endeavors as an attorney specializing in Human Rights cases as a member of the Bar Association of Port-au-Prince. His career experiences expanded with him serving as a journalist and political analyst at Weekly Le Petit Samedi soir magazine from 1982-1987 and Daily Panorama and Weekly Le Miroir from 1986-1988. Gerard’s special emphasis was on reporting to the world the situation the people of Haiti faced as they courageously struggled for many years for basic human rights, justice, economic development and opportunity, health care and a brighter future for their children and grandchildren. Gerard worked closely in conjunction with the United States embassy in regards to Haitian-American relations and for over the course of more than 40 years he dedicated his life to doing everything possible to help the people of Haiti.
Gerard’s heart was firmly planted in his home country of Haiti. Its people, culture, language, cuisine and customs were all deeply imbued in Gerard’s persona. Gerard also loved his adopted country, the United States and was a proud Woonsocket resident. He traveled to America in 1990 and worked at Garelick Farms from 1990-1995. He returned to Haiti and was a member of the Bar Association from 1995-2000 and resumed his career as a journalist at Le Matin Daily from 1995-2001. He was the author of 3 books: De La Guerilla Judiciaire, Main Basse Sur la Justice, Comprendere la Presidence Americane in 1996, 1997 and 1998. He returned to America in 2001 and worked for CVS from 2010-2015 until the time of his retirement.
Gerard was the father of his daughter the late Hansy Georges. He is survived by his brother Dr. Jacques R. Georges and his wife Dawn of New Hampshire and Wilfred Georges of Woonsocket and Marie Josee Georges.
He is also survived by his extended family of many nieces, nephews and cousins both in the United States and Haiti.
Everyone is welcome to gather to honor, remember and pray for Gerard at his funeral service on Thursday June 25, 2026 at 11:00 at Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave. Woonsocket. Visiting hours are from 9:00-11:00 am at the funeral home prior to the service.
Gerard will be laid to rest alongside his beloved mother Odette at Union Cemetery on Great Road in North Smithfield.
