Francis A. “Frank” Valys of Winthrop passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2026. He was 80 years old. Francis was the beloved husband of Nancy T. (Ford) Valys. Born in Bridgeport, CT, he was the cherished son of the late Anthony J. and the Glenna F. (Lessard) Valys.
Frank was a Green Beret serving in the U.S. Army’s 101st Airborne Division, 10th Special Forces Group during the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1968. Prior to his retirement, Frank worked as a carpenter with the Carpenter’s Union, Local #40. Frank was a life member of the Winthrop Lodge of Elks #1078. For many years, Frank was a coach for the Winthrop Little League and an avid sports fan.
Frank was the devoted father of Mark G. Valys and Keith J. Valys, both of Winthrop and Monica E. DeBole and her husband Leo of Swampscott. He was the adored grandfather of Clyde, Audrey, Noah, Katie, Jack and Ainsley. Frank was the dear brother of the late Carol Bybee of Long Beach, CA, and he is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be held in St. John the Evangelist Church, (St. Michael the Archangel Parish) 320 Winthrop St., Winthrop, MA, on Friday, June 26, at 12 PM. Relatives and friends are invited.
