O’TOOLE, Daniel age 95, of Sandwich, MA, and South Boston, MA, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on June 12, 2026, in Naples, Florida.
Born in Woburn, MA, Dan was the son of the late John E. O’Toole (BPD) and Madeline A. (Hooper) O’Toole, and the stepson of the late Elizabeth M. (Lammers) O’Toole. He grew up in Dorchester, MA.
Dan was a proud Korean War veteran who served with the engineering unit Special Category Army Personnel with Air Force (SCARWAF). Following his military service, he followed in his father's footsteps and joined the Boston Police Department, where he spent the majority of his 35-year career as a motorcycle officer before retiring as a detective with the Arson Squad.
He leaves behind his devoted wife, Kathleen O’Toole; his son, Mark O’Toole of Las Vegas, NV; his daughter, Meghan O’Toole (Vanessa Flick) of Boston, MA; and his cherished granddaughter, Madeline, his best friend, who brought immeasurable joy to his life when she made him a "Danpa." He is also survived by his sister, Regina (O’Toole) Murdock of Shelburne Falls, MA, and many adored nieces and nephews, all of whom he was very proud.
In addition to his parents, Dan was predeceased by his sister, Dorothy Wilson, and his brothers, John and Henry.
Dan’s long life included many wonderful adventures, including time spent living in Dublin, Ireland, and Seattle, WA, where he made many treasured friends and enjoyed the company of beloved family members. He was a longtime member of The Ridge Club in Sandwich, MA, where he formed several special friendships on and off the golf course. Dan will be remembered for his one-of-a-kind sense of humor and his unconditional love for his family.
