Obituary

Lowell native, Professional Entertainer, and Loving Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, and Friend; 72 Lowell

It is with great sadness that the family announces that John "Jack" Baldwin, 72, a Lowell native, died peacefully on Tuesday, June 16, 2026.

The son of the late Richard Baldwin and the late Mildred (Muldoon) Baldwin, Jack was born April 17, 1954, in Lowell, graduating from Lowell High School with the Class of 1972. He went on to live in North Chelmsford and Manchester, New Hampshire, before returning to his beloved Lowell.

Jack built a career in radio broadcasting that spanned decades and left a mark on everyone who “tuned in” or worked alongside him. He got his start in Boston during the heyday of Rock and Roll Radio, before finding his way to the studios of WJUL in the basement of UMass Lowell— where he would also find his true love, Judy. He later hosted morning shows in Manchester as the "Nearly Famous Jack Baldwin" on WHOB and WZID, before returning home to finish his career among dear friends at 980AM WCAP, where he was a familiar presence at Lowell Lock Monsters and Spinners games, Lowell Folk Fest, and every special event in between. Throughout it all, Jack took great pride in mentoring the next generation of broadcasting professionals.

To truly know Jack was to know that he was always — as his WCAP afternoon show put it — living for the weekend. The life of every party, his warmth and positive outlook were as natural as the sound of the ocean, which he loved dearly. He cherished his family and friends above all else, best enjoyed with an accompanying soundtrack, and shared his passion for music and the arts with his son, granddaughters, and nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Jack is survived by his son Conor Baldwin and his wife Sandy (Boumel) of Lowell; his beloved granddaughters McKenzie and Harper; his brothers Charles Baldwin and his wife Pattie of Dracut, and William "Richard" Baldwin and his wife Joan of Lowell; and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends whom he loved with all his heart. He was predeceased by his long-time companion Judy (Callery) Baldwin.
