Obituary

SEBAGO- Leonard Wayne Carruthers, age 65, of Sebago, Maine, passed away peacefully at home
surrounded by family on June 16, 2026, after a relentless battle with stage IV colorectal
cancer. A true jack-of-all-trades and a joy to be around, Leonard left a legacy of hard work,
kindness, and endless laughter.
Leonard was born in Bridgton, Maine, a son of Edward and Mary (Nutting) Carruthers. He
was an extremely hardworking man who dedicated 30 years of his life as an Arborist for
Lucas Tree, followed by over 15 years as a Rock Crusher Operator for P&K Sand & Gravel,
and F.R. Carroll. He was the definition of a protector and provider, always the very first
person to step up whenever anyone was in need.
Leonard was happiest when he was busy with his hands. He took immense pride in his
home, working hard to maintain it and make it beautiful. If he wasn’t working on the house,
you could find him in his garage, tinkering on anything and everything – from perfecting his
son’s 1987 Ford Mustang, to building a custom golf cart from scratch. In his quieter
moments, he enjoyed building mini semi-truck models, napping with his dog Pearl,
watching documentaries or heading out for a day of brook fishing.
Above all, Leonard was a dedicated family man. He shared 31 beautiful years with his wife
Rosalie. He was an amazing dad, who was proud of his children, Josh and Mollie.
Those who knew Leonard, will remember him most for his goofy nature and sense of
humor. He had a gift for making people laugh. He deeply appreciated life’s simple
pleasures. His perfect morning was spent sitting on the deck with his wife, while sharing a
cup of co ee, watching the sun rise, and listening to the birds chirp.
Leonard is survived by his wife Rosalie (Nason) Carruthers; his children Joshua Cutting
(Jessica), and Mollie Carruthers; his mother Mary (Nutting) Carruthers; his sisters Judy Nile
(Larry), Carol Allen, and Emmy Andrews; his brothers Richard Carruthers, and Kenny
Carruthers; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Edward
Carruthers; and his brothers Chester Carruthers, and Robert Carruthers.
He will be deeply missed, but his warmth, his jokes, and his generous spirit will live on in
the hearts of everyone who loved him.
A private graveside service will be held on June 28, 2026, to honor and celebrate
Leonard’s life.
For those who wish to honor his memory, donations may be sent to New England Cancer
Specialists, 11 Rock Row, Westbrook, Maine 04092. Flowers may be sent to 25 William
Henry Drive, Sebago, Maine 04029.
