Edward Laferrell Salter of Six Mile, South Carolina, formerly of Tifton, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2026, in Six Mile, South Carolina on his 89th birthday. A private family funeral service will be held for Mr. Salter. Mr. Salter will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Born June 16, 1937, in Tift County, Mr. Salter was the son of the late Raymond Lee Salter and Annie Lou Outlaw Salter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alice Goodman Salter; one sister, Pauline Salter; and one stepson, Dale Chambless. Before retiring, he was the Plant Manager at Avondale Mills in Tifton. He loved to fish and he loved to watch the Atlanta Braves. He was a member of Believers Baptist Church in Tifton.
Mr. Salter is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond E. and Kim Salter of Carrolton, Michael L. and Charlene Salter of Poulan, Edward L. Jr. and Debbie Salter of Clover, South Carolina and Monty L. and Sharon Salter of Buchanan; one daughter and son-in-law, Shara and Dennis Dunn of Six Mile, South Carolina; one adopted son and his wife, Jeffrey and Lori Salter of Baconton; one stepson and his wife, Randy and Cheryl Chambless of Ty Ty; one stepdaughter, Debra Jones of Ty Ty; 21 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.
Mr. Salter will be missed by his close friend and his family, Douglas Baldwin and the staff and Seneca Health and Rehabilitation in Seneca, South Carolina.
