LACONIA ---- It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Gary John Von George on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at the age of 62. Surrounded by the love of his family, Gary left this world after a lifetime marked by courage, resilience, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.
Born October 26, 1963, in Peekskill, New York, Gary was the son of the late Heinrick and Barbara (Gordineer) Von George. Family lore maintains that he was his mother’s favorite child, a distinction Gary never hesitated to embrace. Truth be told, he was a favorite of many. His humor, passion, and resilience made it impossible not to love him.
Gary dedicated 36 years of service to the Veterans Administration Medical Center. He began his career in Brockton, MA, before moving to Providence, RI, and ultimately Manchester, NH, where he retired as the Business Office Manager in 2019. Throughout his career, Gary brought the same dedication and compassion to serving our nation’s veterans that he brought to every aspect of his life. He considered it a privilege to support those who had served our country and
took great pride in advocating for veterans and ensuring they received the care and respect they deserved.
Gary is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Tamara (Rayburn) Von George, and by his greatest joys, his children: Michael, Alyson, Gabriella, and Rebecca Von George, all of Laconia, NH. Gary was his children’s biggest fan, whether cheering from the sidelines, coaching their teams, attending their activities, or gathering around the table for a spirited board game. He also leaves behind his beloved dogs, Charlie and Cooper.
He is further survived by his brother, Rick Von George and his wife, Joelle, of North Carolina, and his sisters, Barbara and Cindy, of Massachusetts, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. Gary was preceded by his brothers, Michael and Thomas Von George, and carried their love and memories with him always.
Gary earned his Master’s Degree from Granite State College and never lost his love of learning. He was an avid reader, collected sports memorabilia, and loved to travel, especially cruising. He was a devoted fan of the Red Sox and Patriots. Simply put, Gary embraced life and made the most of every day.
