DUDLEY – Dorothy “Dolly” (Buchka) Sosnowski, 96, died Saturday, June 13, 226 in the Rose Monahan Hospice Home after a brief illness. Her husband of 27 years, Zenon Sosnowski died in 1984.
She leaves two sons, Gary L. A. Sosnowski and his wife Lynn of Woodstock, CT and Kevin J. Sosnowski and his wife Denise of Bluffton, SC; four grandchildren, Derek Sosnowski, Bryan and his wife Casey Sosnowski, Clay and his wife Jade Sosnowski, and Carinne Sosnowski; a great-granddaughter and the “apple of her eye”, Gracie Sosnowski; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her five brothers, Anest “Clark” Buchka, Tom Baxter, Michael Buchka, Vasil “Bill” Buchka, and Leon “Sonny” Buchka; and six sisters, Olga Buchka, Marha Kenneway, Julia DiBonaventura, Shirley Joliecoeur, Alice Barry, and Hazel A. Buchka.
She was born in Webster on December 19, 1929 a daughter of Stathi E. and Stathesi “Stella” (Mateor) Buchka and graduated from Bartlett High School in 1947. Immediately after high school she was formally trained as a hairdresser.
Mrs. Sosnowski was a hairdresser first at the Alexis Beauty Salon in Dudley and then at Carrie’s in Webster, retiring at the age of 75. She was also a hairdresser at the Oakwood Rehabilitation Center in Webster.
She was a life member of Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Webster. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and taking yoga and Zumba classes in Oxford. She was active, independent and still driving at the age of 95. Her family was the center of her life.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 22 at 11:00 AM in Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 35 Lake Parkway. Burial will follow in Saint Anthony’s Cemetery, Webster. A time of visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11:00 AM in the church prior to the service. Donations in her memory may be made to the Sts.
