Obituary

Gary John, affectionately known as “Chin” was born on December 5, 1963, to Norbert and
Shirley John in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad. Chin attended Gonzales Primary School and then
migrated to Boston at the age of 8 years old. Chin attended Mendell Elementary School,
Curley Middle School and graduated from Boston Technical High School in 1982.

After high school, Chin entered the workforce. He held jobs at Jewish Memorial Hospital,
Jewish Community Center and Needham Public Schools.

Although Chin did not have any children of his own, he was a well-known father figure to all his nieces, nephews and other close family members. Chin had a love for gambling at the
casino and at the dog/horse racetracks. Chin was an avid movie watcher and enjoyed eating
such foods such as steak and cheese subs, Chinese food, roti, all followed by an ice-cold
Coca-Cola.

Chin enjoyed watching sports of all types, but he was a die-hard loyal Patriots fan. He
collected all sorts of comics and basketball cards. Chin lived a very simple life but was
always very generous. Chin will be remembered for his candid sense of humor.

Chin transitioned to be home with the Lord onJune 13, 2026. He leaves to cherish in his
memories, his parents – Shirley and Norbert John (Deceased); his siblings (Joseph (Connie
– deceased), Charmaine (Marlon), Joanne,Jennifer (Cornell), Avril, Sean, Debbie; nieces– Iyla; nephews – Delvonta (Lamont), Corey, Christopher, Marcus, Alan, Matthew, Tyler; a
host of aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family and friends.

Family and friends are invited to attend the Viewing hour on Friday June 26, 2026 from 9-10 AM followed by a Religious Service from 10-11:30 in the Joseph Russo Funeral Home, 814 American Legion Highway, Roslindale, MA. Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery, 95 Forest Hills Ave, Jamaica Plain, MA.
