
THOMPSON, CT – Leonard W. Gajewski, 75, died Friday, June 12, 2026 at Matulaitis Nursing Home in Putnam after a brief illness. His wife of 53 years, Diane W. (Kijek) Gajewski, died on January 29.
He is survived by his son, Keith Gajewski and his wife Kimberly of Dudley, MA; his son-in-law, Richard Nolin of Worcester, MA; three grandchildren, Theodore Gajewski, Cara Nolin and William Nolin; his brother, Thomas Gajewski of Leland, NC; his mother-in-law, Wanda Kijek of Milford, MA; two sisters-in-law, Frances Brandin and her husband Martin of Upton, MA, and Nancy Kijek of Hollywood, FL; and a niece, Ashley Brandin. He was preceded in death by his daughter Kimberly Nolin in 2018.
He was born on September 29, 1950 in Dudley, MA a son of William C. “Val” and Eleanor G. (Szymczak) Gajewski. He graduated from Saint Joseph Elementary School in 1964 and Bartlett High School in 1968. He earned a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science from Nichols College in Dudley, MA.
Mr. Gajewski was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam era.
He worked in computer and information technology first at Norton Company in Worcester, MA then at Nichols College in Dudley, MA and finally at Unibank for Savings in Whitinsville. He retired in 2020. After working at Unibank he knew every place in the Blackstone Valley to get a “great lunch”.
He was a member of Saint Joseph Basilica in Webster. He proudly achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and was active in Boy Scout Troop #173 at Saint Joseph Basilica, Webster. He enjoyed traveling, cooking and attending his grandchildren’s events.
The family would like to thank the ICU nurses at Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam for their exceptional care, and the staff at both Backus Hospital in Norwich and Matulaitis Nursing Home.
A memorial Mass will be held Friday, June 19, at 1:30 PM in Saint Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb Street, Webster. Burial with military honors provided by the Webster-Dudley Veteran’s Council will take place in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace Columbarium. The family will receive relatives and friends in the church before the Mass from 12:30 to 1:30 PM. Donations in his memory may be made to the Saint Joseph Elementary School, 47 Whitcomb Street, Webster, MA 01570. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Sitkowski, Malboeuf & Hickey Funeral Home at 340 School Street, Webster, MA.
