Obituary

Brian A. Medeiros was the son of the late Raymond P. Medeiros and Alma (Graham) Medeiros. He grew up in Dartmouth, Massachusetts at his family farm, Dartmouth Orchards. He graduated from Dartmouth High School in 1975.

Brian's love for working outdoors and assisting his father began at age 5. He got up early and looked forward to driving the tractor and helping with the many chores it took to keep the trees healthy. In 1996, after his father passed, Brian took over the farm and expanded the business. He replaced many of the original trees with dwarf trees to increase the yield and offer pick-your-own during harvest. He grafted branches from some of his favorite varieties and nurtured those trees to success. It wasn't always easy taking care of the 2,000 fruit trees, and the neighbors knew when there was a threat of frost because they saw him in the orchard at 3:00 AM doing whatever it took to ensure he would have the best peaches on his shelves in July.

When visiting his farm stand, it was obvious he was a hard worker, loved what he did and was very good at it. His green thumb was evident when walking in the large field filled with over 1,000 colorful mums. And of course, the award-winning cider he started making with his father continued to be the main attraction for many from all over the state.

But even though he had great products, many would visit because they loved Brian. He loved engaging with people and talking about everything. He had a quick wit and was authentic. Brian lived his life by his own terms, and said it as he saw it. He had a heart of gold, and he enjoyed sharing the orchard and everything he worked hard for. He enjoyed hosting the UMASS students and the children of the Schwartz Center for many years. They would make his day when joining him on the farm to pick apples or play games that he created

In the winter months before Brian started pruning, he enjoyed catching up with his church family, many who became dear friends since he joined a few years ago. He also enjoyed cooking and gifting his delicious apple crisp to those he appreciated.

Brian will be forever missed by his friends, neighbors, loyal customers, and his family. He leaves behind his brother Raymond Medeiros (Donna), his twin sister Jane DiNobile (Lou), his German Shepherd dog Milo, his nephews Raymond and Kevin Medeiros, godchildren, cousins, many employees who he made a lasting impression, and special friends who shared the love of working hard outdoors

During Brian's battle with cancer, he was so grateful to the staff at St. Anne's Oncology Center, Hawthorne Medical Associates, St. Anne's Hospital, and Clifton Rehab. His message to all of the staff: "Thank you for what you do".

To all of his dear friends who called, messaged, and visited Brian throughout his journey, please know that you made a difference, and we are all grateful.

In lieu of flowers, you can donate in Brian's memory to The Schwartz School, One Posa Place, Dartmouth, MA 02747.
