Joyce Marie Parkel, 82, of Ojai, California, peacefully passed away on June 9, 2026, in Ojai. Joyce was born in North Hollywood on October 31, 1944. She attended John H. Francis Polytechnic High School and graduated in 1962. She went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education and Physiology from California Lutheran University in 1966, followed by a Doctorate of Education from the University of La Verne in 1983.
She went on to become a professor of health and physical education at Oxnard College in 1976 before retiring in 2006.
Joyce is survived by her sons, Andrew and Martin Ouimet; her daughter, Inga Parkel; and her granddaughters, Linnea, Isabella, and Evelyn. She was preceded in death by her parents, Inga and Joseph Parkel, and her older brother, Gerald Parkel, a U.S. Army servicemember who died in combat in Vietnam in 1967. She was loved dearly by all the lives she touched, and she will be sincerely missed.
